Elora at a Glance
Heading 20 km (12.4 mi) northwest of Guelph
on Highway 7, visitors will find themselves in picturesque Elora, Ontario,
an area known for having unique 1800s-style architecture and a welcoming, creative
community. Elora's most well-known attraction is the Elora
Gorge, where limestone cliffs tower over the bank of the Grand River, forming
a natural recreation area that is widely used by residents and tourists alike
for camping, hiking, kayaking and tubing. Nearby is the Elora
Quarry Conservation Area, a former limestone quarry that is now a popular
swimming spot. The
Elora Mill has the distinction of being Canada's only standing five-story
mill, though the building is used as an upmarket hotel and restaurant
these days. The mill and nearby shops
overlook the natural spectacle of the Tooth
of Time Waterfall. This artistic town's signature event happens in the summer,
when the Elora
Festival sees a number of musical performances at various venues throughout
Elora.
